THIS WEEK IN K-POP: Ranking the New Releases from August 17 – 23

The b-sides for skz…. I’d say they’re random picks however I sort of get it. I simply listened to the album throughout and my total impression is disappointment. However I actually wasn’t anticipating something from 0801 as I normally discover fan songs overly treacly/sentimental, and from that vantage level I used to be pleasantly shocked by it. There was a reference to their outdated tune “Develop Up” to which I’ve cried greater than I’d prefer to admit, so I discovered myself really touched by it, which was good after an album that made me really feel like they’re dropping contact.

“Phoenix” just isn’t for me but it surely’s a dance observe so I see why Nick would gravitate extra in the direction of it.

My stand-out b-side could be “BLEEP.” It nonetheless loses some factors for what I see as overuse of autotune and likewise the lyrics “I’ll discover you and kill you just like the film Taken.” Nevertheless that’s really so fucking humorous that I’m smiling occupied with it, so perhaps it may be forgiven on that foundation. It’s nonetheless at most an 8/10 for me although, like, why is it so restrained? How can an album be loud and shouty but additionally so weirdly low-energy?
