The PGA issued an apology to Erica Stoll after she and her husband, Rory McIlroy, skilled heckling from each emcee Heather McMahan and different attendees on the Ryder Cup on Sept. 26.
The event, held at Bethpage Black Golf Course in Farmingdale, N.Y., is a biennial golf event between the U.S. and Europe. Stoll, 38, was hit with a beer can, and each she and the Northern Irish golfer, 36, have been subjected to a number of verbal insults. “Heather has prolonged an apology to Rory McIlroy and Ryder Cup Europe and has stepped down from internet hosting the primary tee of the Ryder Cup,” PGA of America stated in a press release to BBC Sport.
On Thursday, Oct. 2, PGA of America President Don Rea Jr. apologized in a letter to PGA of America members obtained by the Related Press.
“Let me start with what we should personal. Whereas the competitors was spirited — particularly with the US workforce’s rally on Sunday afternoon — some fan conduct clearly crossed the road,” Rea wrote. “It was disrespectful, inappropriate, and never consultant of who we’re because the PGA of America or as PGA of America golf professionals. We condemn that conduct unequivocally.”
In an interview with The Athletic on Wednesday, Oct. 1, PGA of America CEO Derek Sprague stated he had a prolonged cellphone name with McIlroy’s supervisor, Sean O’Flaherty. Sprague, who has been main the group since January, condemned McMahan’s and the followers’ conduct.

“I’m upset in fan conduct, upset within the first tee and the emcee that it’s simply that’s not who we’re,” Sprague continued. “And I used to be simply actually, actually, actually upset.”
In his letter, Rea additionally famous that Sprague apologized to McIlroy, Erica and to “everybody with Ryder Cup Europe.”
