Patti Smith has introduced Bread of Angels, a brand new memoir set to reach on November 4th.
The ebook follows earlier Smith memoirs Simply Children (2010), M Practice (2015), and Yr of the Monkey (2019). Described as her “most intimate” memoir in a press release, Bread of Angels covers Smith’s teenage years and early music profession, together with her relationships with MC5 guitarist Fred “Sonic” Smith and her late good friend/associate/confidant Robert Mapplethorpe, her foray into poetry, and the writing and recording of seminal albums like Horses and Easter.
The synopsis reads: “As Smith suffers profound losses, grief and gratitude are braided by years of caring for her youngsters, rebuilding her life, and, lastly, writing once more—the one fixed on a path pushed by inventive freedom and the ability of the creativeness to remodel the mundane into the gorgeous, the commonplace into the magical, and ache into hope.”
The November 4th launch of Bread of Angels will coincide with Smith’s fiftieth anniversary tour commemorating Horses, which arrived on November tenth, 1975. In the meantime, November 4th was additionally Mapplethorpe’s birthday, so it’s a day of remembrance this 12 months for Smith.
