Kenya Eugene has formally stepped into her roots with the discharge of her debut Roots Reggae EP, You Are I, now out there on all streaming platforms. The four-track challenge, produced by Alfred “Tippy I” Laurent of I-Grade Information alongside the Zion I Kings, is Kenya’s most intentional and private work to this point—grounded in reggae, but broad open in feeling.

Recorded in Atlanta, the EP explores themes that go far deeper than rhythm: love, identification, perseverance, religion, and self-worth. From the opening notes of “In and Outta Love” to the meditative move of “I N I” and the power in “Elevate Up My Head,” this challenge doesn’t simply supply songs—it affords tales.
