Wendi Peters does not really feel taken “severely” as an actress following her ‘Coronation Avenue’ days.

The 57-year-old star performed Cilla Battersby-Brown on ITV’s flagship cleaning soap opera from 2003 till 2007 earlier than returning for a short stint in 2014 and admitted that the position “modified folks’s perspective” of her in a “ridiculous” manner.

Talking on the ‘In The Body’ podcast, she mentioned: “It does change folks’s perspective fairly ridiculously of what you are able to do as an actor.

“[Cilla] was such an enormous character that individuals noticed me as that and nonetheless now folks will say ‘Oh, you do not speak like that!’

“No, I do not. It was a put-on voice.

“I do suppose – and that is fairly a controversial factor to say – however I do suppose that generally the business does not take cleaning soap actors severely.”

Wendi – who performed the neglectful mom of Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) on the serial – has since returned to her roots in theatre and is presently starring as socialite Florence Foster Jenkins in ‘Wonderful!’ on the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester.

However the former ‘Medical doctors’ actress admitted it makes her “upset and indignant” that she will’t even get an audition for sure roles as a result of she is so well-known as Cilla.

She mentioned: “There are specific issues I might like to be seen for and I might like to be doing, however I do not get a glance in. So, there are a couple of venues inside London and up in Warwickshire that I do not even get seen for.

“It makes me upset and indignant that they do not realise what I’ve finished and what I’m able to doing.

“And what I’ve finished since – all these intimate venues and excursions, performs and musicals. Learn my CV, mainly.”
